Evolent Health, a company that offers software and clinical solutions to providers and health plans, could be acquired by either a private equity firm or Elevance Health. In other news, Surgery Partners, a major surgery center, urgent care, and provider group, could be sold to United Healthcare.

Numerous Medicare Drug Price Articles; One Bill Would Broaden Medicare Drug Negotiation Law

The media continues to cover the Medicare drug price negotiation law after the recent annoucement regarding prices being set for the first ten drugs. First, there is a good outline of the the Strengthening Medicare and Reducing Taxpayer (SMART) Prices Act, which would expand the IRA’s provisions on drug negotiations. The bill would expand the number of drugs eligible to be negotiated, accelerate drug eligibility for negotiations, and lower price ceilings to deepen discounts.

Second, the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) has a great primer on the Medicare drug price negotiation law and the process so far.

Third, in a Health Affairs Forefront blog, various proposals are outlined to strengthen how the government could further lower drug prices.
